Behind the scenes at W12 Studios

An insight into life away from the screen

So far, we have been sharing the work we create inside the studio — the things we’re proud to have designed for our clients. However, another thing we are proud of at W12 Studios is our culture. So here’s an insight into what it’s like to work here…

Breakfast

Breakfast

After all, breakfast is the most important meal of the day — and for W12 Studios, it’s also the most competitive. Every Friday, two members of the studio are assigned a budget to provide breakfast for everyone, so far we have seen pizza rolls, quesadillas, even sushi! Unwritten rules are, the more creative the better, and you will be judged for the ‘continental cop-out’…

Every week, someone is nominated to choose a film still, and the team have 10 minutes to recreate it using a Wacom tablet. It’s not just the designers who get involved, even the Operations team, where some (like myself) had never even opened Photoshop before can give it a try — so as you can imagine, some results are better than others…

Run Club

Run Club

For a studio with so many foodies, we needed something to counteract all the snacks — enter run club! The team have been braving the streets of Wapping at lunchtime — dodging the many dog walkers — all in the name of hitting 5k twice a week.

Meat Club

Meat Club

Yes, you read that right, W12 Studios has a ‘meat club’, where the meat-eaters amongst us have “meat ups” to sample what the restaurants of London have to offer, as well as what the team themselves can cook up.

Hack Days

Hack Days

Hack days are a favourite at W12 Studios, where the team down-tools for the day to experiment with areas and industries we don’t usually have a chance to on a daily basis. Previous hack days have centred around VR/AR and fan engagement. This isn’t just for the designers and developers, the whole studio — Operations team included — get to work on a brief for a day, presenting back to the studio in the afternoon.

Five-a-side

Five-a-side

If they weren’t product designers, they would definitely play for (insert team name here) … Making full use of the football pitch round the corner from the studio, some of the team play football once a week.

Foosball

Foosball

For those who prefer their football more… stationary, we also have a foosball team! Playing against each other, and other agencies who share our building, our team are basically the Arsenal of the foosball world. (Although we are biased).

As if we couldn’t spend any more time together, we also have socials outside of the studio. Bowling, Junkyard Golf, Rooftop bars, Ping-Pong — with others in the pipeline like Laser Tag and Escape rooms. Of course it wouldn’t be W12 Studios without something food-related, so there’s always a dinner stop — like a detour to Brick Lane’s finest Beigel shops.

Nothing like sussing out who the most competitive people are in the Studio than a weekly Quiz! Hosted by our Studio Manager and resident Quizmaster Ashleigh, the studio is divided into five teams (some with more creative names than others) to go head-to-head in General Knowledge and Music rounds, with eternal bragging rights up for grabs.

As much as we would love to include more behind the scenes insights at W12 Studios, we worry that it might look like we don’t do any work… (we do, promise!) However, if you think you have what it takes to be a W12-er, you can get in touch with our Talent Manager — Dani, on dani@w12studios.comor keep up to date with what’s going on by following our Instagram — @w12studios
